Atelier KAKA is an architectural design studio founded by Chen Jiahua, with a name that carries both personal meaning and cultural depth. 'KAKA,' inspired by a Japanese transliteration of the founder's name, represents far more than a personal signature.
The character 'Jia' conveys the idea of home, space, and the built environment — which lies at the heart of our architectural practice.
"Hua" reflects the spirit of Chinese craftsmanship as it took root in Nanyang — a heritage of resilience, diligence, humility, and the courage to innovate.
'KAKA' also resonates with a maternal sense of care — expressing the belief that design should be thoughtful, refined, and attentive, much like the gentle precision of a mother's touch.
This profession has become a journey of continuous learning and self-cultivation. It is not only a profession, but a lifelong calling that continues to challenge, teach, and inspire.
For me, architecture and interior design have never been just about construction — they are about shaping the way people live for years, even decades to come. After many years in this industry, I have come to see that every project is both a grand physically demanding undertaking and a delicate craft.
Turning a bare structure into a complete and livable space requires hard work, endurance, and the steady coordination of many moving parts. The comfort of furniture placement, the logic of plumbing and electrical systems, orientation for Fengshui, and even the balance of spatial harmony -- all require careful thought.
None of these details can be overlooked, because what seems like a small misjudgment today may become a lasting inconvenience in the daily lives of those who will inhabit the space for the next ten or twenty years.
Along the way, this profession has also become a journey of continuous learning and self-cultivation. Every conversation, every client, and every project offers new perspectives. That is why I remain deeply devoted to this work: it is not only a profession, but a lifelong calling that continues to challenge.
Design should be thoughtful, refined, and attentive — much like the gentle precision of a mother's touch.
